Participation in One Child Hero
Just a quick introduction about me. I am an award winning international educator, born and raised in Wales, I trained at the University of Wales and dedicated my life to "Global Education for Every Child Everywhere" My research and practice has taken me around the globe, working with children both inside the classroom and out, in many different social, economical, geographical and cultural environments. My practice has been about sharing ideas, promoting child advocacy and developing the idea of "EPIC - Eradicating Poverty Individually and Collectively" My solo journeys have taken me to the homes and communities of many children around the world, travelling solo through deserts, droughts, floods, war and political coup d'tats, from the mining valleys of Wales to the depths of the Amazon Jungle and the Volcano Alleys of the Andes, to Africa, Asia and from Oceania to the Americas, plus India, Sri Lanka, UK, Asia, Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Central and South America. This site shows just some of the projects I have designed and implemented in order to achieve this. .
This was my first major research project that took me through many countries suffering from environmental, social, political and economic changes, giving the children of the world a voice on an international stage through the ability to make their own films online. Sharing their hopes, dreams and concerns for their lives, their communities and the world that they will inherit in film and photography. The first and only educational and anthropological study ever undertaken on such a scale.
Together we made over 80 short documentary films on educational emancipation, environment, poverty, culture, heritage, climate change, social entrepreneurship, citizenship and childrens life and education in the 21st Century. I gave the children the equipment and the skills, they gave their voices to their hopes, dreams and fears for their cultures, communities and country in a rapidly changing world. We collectively documented and shared the hopes dreams and concerns of students and teachers around the world in the 21st century and more importantly gave the children of the world a voice on the global stage irrespective of social, geographical, political and economic isolation - " Whispers without words ready to be heard" - As the research project grew so did the requests from more schools, orphanages, child refugee centres for me to visit and help the children tell the stories of their lives and the project grew and grew. Now in 2023 there is a relaunch and a new Global Learning for a Global World project that shares these stories, resources and an opportunity to become involved in a brand new project - One Child Hero -
I am a passionate educator and believe in educational emancipation for all. I have spent my life travelling the globe working with children in schools, orphanages, hospitals, child refugee centres and I have realised that the best way to tackle injustice is to educate, not just the few, but everyone, hence my passion for educational emancipation and opportunity for every child everywhere irrespective of geographical, social or economic isolation.
My own learning journey has been both inspirational and mind opening as I followed my insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge and understanding of the world we live in. A journey that took me around the world looking at different countries' curriculums, teaching styles, access and opportunities. Access and opportunities for both teachers and learners, home schoolers, refugee workers, educational leaders, managers and policy directors but more importantly the opportunites for education for every child everywhere irrespective of social, geographical, economical isolation. Anyone who has met me knows how passionate I am about educational emancipation for all. Hence this website to communicate, collaborate and celebrate both Around the World in 80 Schools and now in 2024 - Global Learning for a Global World and One Child Hero. Because never before has there been such a need for a focus on educational emancipation for every child everywhere. - Charline
